    PATTI LOCURCIO

patti-locurcio-2009“In March of this year, I turned 44.  Back in 1996 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  My husband and I have 3 children.  In 2001, I was forced to retire from my 20-year position as a legal secretary.

Five years ago, my ability to walk started to diminish.  Now I use an electric wheelchair to get around.  I drive an accessible van with hand controls.  In 2006, I took on the role as a volunteer for the Long Island Breakfast Club (an organization providing advocacy, support, career and employment counseling, referrals and good old fashioned laughter to prepare mature individuals and people with special needs for productive employment) and volunteer as their Director of Communications.  I attend monthly meetings and am involved in operating the organization..

One day, I figured out there were some advantages to being young and disabled -  I have a good personality, I have a big smile, I get along well with others and I can relate to those in need of  a home with accessibility and free of obstacles. Volunteering as a Spokesperson for “HomeFreeHome” gives me the opportunity to help others tear down barriers and help build their freedom.”
